SERVICES

Jay Shanker is a Psychological Associate Registered with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. Jay completed his undergraduate degree in Psychology from York University in 2011 and obtained his Master’s Degree in Clinical Psychology from Adler School of Graduate Studies in 2015.  Jay has a full-time practice working in Markham, Ontario offering appointments both virtually and in-person to accommodate the needs and unique circumstances of his clients.  He works with clients aged 18 years and older.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Jay has received extensive training in both hospital and private practice settings working with groups and individuals dealing with a variety of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, workplace stress and injury, chronic pain, anger, and behavioural addictions.  He works collaboratively with his clients to identify and work through emotional, psychological, and behavioural challenges that can affect relationships, block goals, and lead to negative emotional states such as anxiety and depression.  His work and life experiences inform his understanding of the many challenges that arise in different stages in life.  This has led to his particular interest in working with clients experiencing difficulties navigating these changes.

Jay is trained in a variety of assessment tests and measures.

APPROACH

Jay believes in a collaborative therapy style and utilizes a client centered integrative treatment approach, which is tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.  He draws on a variety of evidence based therapeutic modalities which include: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Mentalization Based Therapy, and Mindfulness.  His non-judgmental, compassionate, and sincere style facilitates the therapeutic process and helps his clients identify personal goals and generate strategies towards positive change.

ABOUT

Jay was born and raised in the Greater Toronto Area.  Outside of his clinical practice, he enjoys spending time with his growing family and has a passion for travel where he can experience people and cultures from around the world.
